NODE aimed to build capacity in responsive evaluation. This approach centers the experiences and outcomes of all students who participate in STEM education projects at HSIs along with the experiences and outcomes of people in the community, including faculty, campus support staff, family, and others. The approach is responsive to stakeholders’ knowledge and experience and invites them to share their perspectives at various stages of evaluation, be that in choosing evaluation questions, in designing instruments, or in making sense of data.
NODE sought to grow the community of Principal Investigators and project staff who design and carry out projects that enhance education and prepare students for the STEM workforce. By engaging evaluators and project leaders, NODE created opportunities for the community to come together, share experiences, develop skills, learn best practices, network, and form groups to convene and dig deeper.
To that end, we offered face-to-face workshops and webinars about evaluation planning and effective, responsive practices for HSIs. We held office hours for one-on-one conversations, and facilitated coffee chats for networking and understanding.
